Your morning update on futures prop firm rule changes, refreshed overnight.
We track the published rules and policies of 32 futures prop firms and keep every version, so when a firm edits a rule we have the before and after in writing. Most of what changes is really nothing: a fixed typo, a clarified sentence, a word added here and there. But real changes stand out fast, and you can literally watch rules and policies tighten line by line. Payout terms creep, consistency thresholds drop, and prices quietly climb. It works the other way too: sometimes payouts improve and rules loosen, and when that happens it’s usually one of our Premier firms.
Most of the tightening shows up on the Unlisted side, firms we track but haven’t listed on PickAPropFirm.com. When a firm with a rough reputation starts gaining traction on rock-bottom prices, promoted by affiliates who would scam their own grandma for a commission, the discount usually costs you somewhere else, and that somewhere shows up here. If a plan looks too good to be true, it almost always is.
Starred changes are the ones we think deserve your attention; the full feed below is everything we caught, right down to the typo fixes.
Treat this page like your morning paper. It updates overnight, so grab your coffee and see what changed. – Jmu (@jmutrades)
We split that step out and call it the Buffer Zone. It is where you build the balance that carries into your Sim Funded account, and it is deliberately gentler than the evaluation you just passed: a smaller target and no daily loss limit.
Account size | Profit target | Drawdown | Consistency | Largest single day
And if you fail it, you reset the Buffer Zone on its own. Your evaluation still stands — you never go back to the beginning. Resets are $250 each for the first three, then $300 for resets four to six, $350 for seven to nine, and so on. If your Buffer Zone had already passed into Sim Funded, a reset is $500. These are the Propel Buffer Zone reset prices.
Phase 3 — Sim Funded
Your account is still simulated, but the profits are real and you can withdraw them. There is no profit target here — the job is to keep trading well.
Payouts can be requested daily, Monday to Friday, on any balance above your starting balance. Requests made before 11am ET are processed the same trading day. While Sim Funded, stop trading for the day once you are $5,000 up and for the week once you are $10,000 up — passing $10,000 in total profit triggers a review for Live Brokerage, where the caps come off entirely.
Nothing is charged during this phase. Your subscription ended at the evaluation.
How the consistency rule works
The consistency rule keeps your biggest day in proportion to the rest of your trading. We compare your largest single profitable day against the sum of your profitable days. Losing days are left out of the calculation entirely — many firms divide by your net profit instead, which shrinks the number you are measured against and makes the rule harder to satisfy.
Here is a week counted both ways. Say you made $1,000 on Monday, $900 on Tuesday, lost $600 on Wednesday, then made $900 on Thursday and $600 on Friday:
- At BluSky we add up your profitable days: $1,000 + $900 + $900 + $600 = $3,400. Your biggest day of $1,000 is 29.4% of that — inside the 34% rule. ✅
- Counting net profit instead subtracts the losing day: $3,400 − $600 = $2,800. The same $1,000 day is now 35.7% — outside the same rule. ❌
The 300K works to a 21% rule instead, so the same week would need your profit spread across more days to comply.
Being out of consistency does not fail your account. It is checked when you request a payout or try to pass a phase, and you fix it by trading on — every additional profitable day grows the total you are measured against and brings your percentage down.
Resetting a Propel evaluation
Most traders do not pass first time. A reset clears the days traded, the balance and the rules by creating a fresh evaluation account, so you can try again without buying a new plan.

Both options share the same risk logic. Option 1 uses the trailing drawdown. Option 2 uses the end-of-day drawdown together with a daily loss limit and has no scaling plan.
On both options the drawdown follows the balance upward and then stops for good once it reaches the starting balance plus $100. From that point it is a fixed floor and no longer moves.
On Option 2 the daily loss limit stays active for the whole life of the account and is never lifted. The $25,000 Option 2 account is the exception: it has no daily loss limit.

How Position Limits Are Adjusted
When a product is deemed high-risk due to volatility, we may implement one or both of the following adjustments:
- Micro Contract Limits
- Mini Contract Restrictions
- Trading on mini-sized contracts or larger may be temporarily halted for affected products
Current Restrictions
👉 Restrictions below are organized by account size: 50K/100K/150K
⚠️ Please note: For Express Funded Accounts, position limits for restricted products have a ceiling of the contracts listed above (CL = 3/6/9, for example).
However, a trader's actual limit may be lower depending on their current account balance, as the Scaling Plan applies independently. Learn more below. 👇
Example of the Scaling Plan for restricted symbols on the 3/6/9 plan
Symbols this applies to:
- Crude Oil (CL)
- E-Mini Crude Oil (QM)
- Micro Crude Oil (MCL)
- Heating Oil (HO)
- RBOB Gasoline (RB)
- Gold (GC)
- Micro Gold (MGC)
Section: Symbols this applies to:

- $1,500 balance = 2 contracts
- $2,000 balance = 3 contracts
- $3,000 balance = 6 contracts
− - $4,500 balance = 9 contracts
− 100K Express Funded Account

- $2,000 balance = 3 contracts
When Do These Restrictions Apply?
Position limit adjustments are:
- Temporary: Restrictions remain in place only while volatility levels are elevated
- Product-specific: Only products experiencing extreme volatility are affected
- Actively monitored: Our Risk Team continuously evaluates market conditions to determine when normal limits can be reinstated
What You Can Still Do
- Continue trading with adjusted position sizes in affected products
- Trade other products with standard position limits
- Focus on risk management and strategic opportunities
- Use this time to refine your trading plan and review your strategy
Understanding Market Volatility
Historic volatility means historic losses can happen faster than normal. When markets move unpredictably:
- Slippage increases
- Risk management becomes more challenging
- Even well-planned trades can move against you quickly
These temporary adjustments give you the opportunity to participate in volatile markets while managing your risk appropriately.

PremierTopstep · Live Funded Account Parameters | Topstep Help CenterupdatedFuturesAdded section stating Live Funded Accounts with no trading activity for more than 30 days may be closed and cannot be put on hold.Aug 7
Can I unlock multiple Reserve tiers at once with a big win?
No. Each tier requires net profit since the last expansion, reviewed weekly. Single oversized wins do not bypass this.
Can I use automated strategies in my LFA?
Automated strategies are permitted, but Topstep cannot help set them up or troubleshoot them. Automated trading via the ProjectX API is prohibited in the LFA.
How does trading Live benefit me over SIM?
Everything counts here. Real capital, real consequences, real payouts with no cap. The XFA proved your strategy works — Live is where you get paid like it. Trading Live is the goal. It means managing real money, which helps develop discipline and skills under real market conditions, preparing you for real-world trading at Topstep and beyond.
Once I have 30 winning days, can I take a 100% payout?
Yes. We encourage Traders to take full advantage of the benefits of Live trading with Topstep, including unlimited growth potential and daily Payouts. Please note that Payouts can only be taken from your unlocked balance, not from your Live Funded Account Reserve. Please note: withdrawing the full balance will close your account.
As you reach each profit target, additional funds are released from your Reserve into your unlocked balance. Once 100% of your balance has been unlocked, you may withdraw those funds as well.
What happens if I lose my 20% starting balance?
If your Live Funded Account balance drops below $1,000, the account will be liquidated immediately and closed at the end of the trading day. The remaining balance will be sent to you as a final payout before the account is closed.
Example: Account drops to $800 = auto liquidation and account closure at the end of that day. The remaining $800 is sent as a final Payout. Unlocked reserve is forfeited.

Can I have Trading Combines while I have a Live Funded Account?
Yes. You can have Trading Combines while actively trading a Live Funded Account. The restriction is only on activation — a passed Trading Combine cannot be activated into an Express Funded Account while your Live Funded Account is active. That option becomes available again if the Live Funded Account is lost.
Tip: You can duplicate trades across multiple accounts using a trade copier. Learn more here.

+ NEW: Range Bars
+ Range Bars
+ 👉 Let price — not the clock — decide when a bar prints, so trends, consolidation, and breakouts stand out without the noise of time-based charts.
+ What it shows
+ Each Range Bar represents a fixed price move instead of a fixed slice of time. A new bar prints only when price travels your chosen range (say, 10 ticks) — no move, no new bar, no matter how much time passes. Quiet stretches compress into a few bars; strong moves stretch into a long run of them.
+ How do I add Range Bars? Range Bars live inside the Advanced Charts (Beta) component. Press the plus sign to add a component, then drag Advanced Charts (Beta) into your layout.
+ What you'll see
+ - Long run of same-color bars — a real trend, completing bars quickly.
+ - Alternating bars in a tight zone — consolidation. Price isn't committing to a direction.
+ - Bars printing faster — volatility is rising, common around news or the session open.
+ - Bars slowing down — price has stalled.
+ - A clean break from a tight cluster — a shift from balance to directional bars.
+ - Trendlines, channels, and support/resistance tend to line up more consistently than on a time chart.
+ Where it fits
+ Range Bars work on any futures contract, on intraday charts. Range size is adjustable per instrument, since a fixed tick count behaves differently across contracts.
+ 👉 Please note: Range Bars have been launched in Beta as a real-time chart type. Bars build forward from when you open the chart — you can't scroll back to bars that printed before, and reloading or switching symbols starts the build fresh. Historical data (rebuilding past bars from tick history) is planned for a future release.
+ Range Bars FAQs
+ Why does my data reset?
+ Beta data resets daily, on top of any reload, symbol switch, or connection drop.
+ Can I customize my settings?
+ Yes. At launch you can choose from 4 chart types and 7 ranges (plus a custom range), and you can change bar color, line color, and timezone.
+ Can I link my chart?
+ Yes, using the link control in the top-left corner of the component.
+ Can I add indicators to Advanced Charts?
+ Not at this time. Because it's a custom chart, a number of things aren't available yet, including indicators, drawing tools, and right-click to place chart orders.
+ How do I sync the crosshairs from my main chart?
+ You can't. Crosshair syncing between your main chart and Advanced Charts isn't supported.

PremierTopstep · Order Types, Fills, and Slippage | Topstep Help CenterupdatedFuturesRemoved Stop-Limit order type from reference table and detailed explanation section, with note that Stop Market should be used on mobile instead.Aug 7
Order types control how and when your trades fill. Slippage is what happens when the market moves between your order and your fill. Both matter — a lot.
Order Types
All order types below are available on TopstepX™.
Order Type | How It Works
Market | Fills at best available price. Fill guaranteed. Price is not.
Limit | Buy below market or sell above. Price guaranteed. Fill is not.
Stop / Stop Market | Becomes a market order when stop price is hit. Buy Stop = above market. Sell Stop = below.
− Stop-Limit | Becomes a limit order at the stop price. Desktop only — use Stop Market on mobile.
Trailing Stop | Trails the market in set increments. Good for locking in breakeven exits.
OCO (One Cancels Other) | 2 orders linked. When 1 fills, the other cancels. Used as a bracket.
OSO (One Sends Other) | When 1 fills, it sends the other.
TopstepX DOM tip: Left-click = Limit. Right-click = Stop.
👉 Learn more about each order type below
Market Order
Executes at the next available price. No price specified — you get the best fill available when your order hits the exchange. Use it when getting filled matters more than the exact price. Fastest way in or out.
⚠️ Avoid in thinly traded markets. Wide bid-ask spreads mean your fill could be way off the last traded price.
Limit Order
Sets the worst price you'll accept. Limit buys go below current price. Limit sells go above it.
Price execution over speed. Trade-off: the market has to trade through your price — not just touch it. You might not get filled. Partial fills happen. Order stays in the book until it's filled, canceled, or expired.
Stop Orders
Stop Market
Triggers at your stop price, then executes like a market order — best available fill. Buy stops go above current price. Sell stops go below it.
Once the stop price is "elected," you're in at whatever the market gives you. No price guarantee. Slippage can happen.
| Stop price placement | Common use
Buy Stop | Above current market price | Enter long on a breakout, or cover a short
Sell Stop | Below current market price | Enter short on breakdown, or protect a long (stop-loss)
On TopstepX: Left-click Bid or Ask column = Limit order. Right-click = Stop order. On mobile, tap the order type selector at the top of the Order Ticket to switch between Market, Limit, and Stop Market.
− Stop Limit
− Two prices. 1 order. When your stop price triggers, a limit order goes out — so you control the worst fill you'll accept.
− Trade-off: if price blows through your limit, you don't get filled. You could miss the market entirely. Desktop only — use Stop Market on mobile.
Trailing Stop
Locks in a stop at a set distance, then automatically moves it as price moves in your favor. Downside stays protected. Upside stays open.
Set it and let it work. Useful for exit strategies and breakeven automation — especially when you don't want to babysit the position.
OCO
2 orders linked. 1 fills, the other cancels. Instantly. Primarily used as bracket orders — a stop and a limit wrapping your position. Cap the loss, lock in the gain. Trade management on autopilot.
OSO
2 orders linked. 1 fills, the other submits. Combine with OCO to fully automate your exit once the entry fills. Entry triggers → exit bracket deploys. No manual intervention needed.
Slippage
You set your stop. It fills somewhere else. That gap is slippage. It happens when there isn't enough market depth to fill your order at your exact price. The market moves before your order executes.
When slippage is most likely
- Economic releases

The Trade Copier lets you mirror trades from a Lead account to 1 or more Follower accounts automatically — so you can run the same strategy across multiple accounts without placing every order manually.
- Lead account — where you place your trades
- Follower account(s) — where those trades are copied to
✋ Before you connect accounts, please know:
- The Lead account must have the lowest Maximum Position Size (MPS) of all accounts in the group. Running a 50K, 100K, and 150K? The 50K is your Lead.
- If your Lead and Follower accounts are at different Scaling Plan tiers — meaning their margin requirements differ — the Trade Copier may disconnect automatically at the start of a new trading day. Always verify your copy trading settings at the start of each session.

The accounts stay linked — copying resumes when the Lead can trade again. You may unlink the accounts manually to trade the followers separately.
+ - If the Lead hits its Maximum Loss Limit, the account is permanently violated; unlink the Followers in Settings to trade them independently.
+ - If you select Liquidate Only when setting your PDLL/PDPT, when of these violations fires on a follower, that account does get dropped from the copier before it's flattened.
+ - If you select Liquidate and Block when setting your PDLL/PDPT, when one of these violations fires on a follower, the account is locked out. It auto-resumes the next trading and does not get removed from Trade Copier.

PremierTopstep · Understanding Hedging | Topstep Help CenterupdatedFuturesAccount closure policy for hedging violations now specifies no payouts allowed, appeals impossible, and accounts cannot reopen.Jul 27
− Please note: after numerous warnings, your account may be permanently closed without further notice if you continue to hedge your positions. This action is irreversible. For this reason, it's very important that you review our Hedging Policy and trade responsibly.
Important Notes
- Monitoring applies in real-time
- Time windows may be adjusted by Risk & Leadership teams
- Violations apply across all accounts involved in hedging
- This policy applies to the Trading Combine, Express, and Live Accounts
Copy Trading and Technical Errors
Technical glitches and copy trading software can create temporary opposite positions — our system accounts for that. But you're still fully responsible for all activity across your accounts, including anything created by automated systems or third-party tools. Manual errors, such as switching directions without closing prior positions, can also result in unintentional hedging.
⚠️ If a hedged position meets our criteria (size, duration, intent), enforcement happens. No exceptions.
How to Avoid Hedging Violations
Best Practices
- Trade a single account to completely avoid the possibility of hedging
- Trade each account independently based on your own analysis
- Don't coordinate positions across accounts (or other traders) to offset risk
- Monitor copy trading tools to ensure they're not creating opposite positions
- Close any accidental hedges immediately if they occur
- Contact Support before implementing any strategy you're unsure about
- Flatten Positions Before Switching Directions: Ensure all open positions are closed and any working orders are canceled before entering a new trade in the opposite direction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I trade the same instrument across multiple accounts?
Yes! You can trade the same markets across different accounts. What's prohibited is holding opposite positions simultaneously in a way that eliminates market risk.
What if I disagree with an enforcement decision?
Section: What if I disagree with an enforcement decision?
− All audit decisions are final. We encourage you to review our trading policies to ensure full compliance moving forward. If you have general questions about the policy itself, we are happy to clarify.
Are hedging attempts tracked at the account level or trader level?
Hedging attempts are tracked at the Trader level. If a Trader received a first-time warning and acknowledged the hedging policy, subsequent hedging activity in any newly purchased account is treated as a post-acknowledgment violation.
Are Practice Accounts included in Hedging Alerts?
No. Practice Accounts are not included in Hedging detection.
What happens if I fail to close an accidental overlap?
If a hedging violation is not resolved within the warning window, positions will be automatically liquidated, and accounts flagged.
Does Topstep allow brief or unintentional overlaps of opposing positions?
No. Opposing positions are prohibited even if the overlap is brief or unintentional. However, first-time violations are treated as warnings with a brief window to un-hedge, as described in our enforcement policy above.
Will a hedging warning affect my payout request?
No, warnings alone do not impact your payouts.
