TL;DR: FundedNext Futures has two loss limits. The daily loss limit caps how much you can lose in a single day (closed + floating losses, plus commissions and fees); hitting it is a soft breach — trading pauses until the next day. The Maximum Loss Limit (MLL) is the total you can lose before your account is permanently breached (a hard breach). Both use a trailing End-of-Day (EOD) system, rising with profits and locking once the MLL reaches your initial balance (initial + $100 for Flex and Rapid Pro & Daily).
FundedNext Futures uses two distinct risk limits. Understanding both is essential to protecting your account.
Part 1 — The Daily Loss Limit
The daily loss limit is the maximum you can lose in a single trading day. It includes both closed and floating (unrealized) losses, plus broker commissions and fees.
Hitting the daily loss limit is a soft breach: trading is disabled for the rest of the day and automatically resets at the start of the next trading day. Your account is not lost.

| Model | Daily Loss Limit |

Section: Which models have a daily loss limit?
+
| Model | Daily Loss Limit |
|---|---|
| Direct Account | $1,000 |
The daily loss limit applies equally to the Challenge Account and the FundedNext Account.
How is the daily loss limit calculated?
The following are all counted toward your daily loss:
- Commissions (per side / contract)
- Regulatory and exchange fees (round-turn)
- Profit/Loss from both closed and running (floating) trades
Floating losses count: if an open trade moves into a loss and hits the limit, trading is disabled even if the trade is still open.
Example — $50,000 account with a $1,000 daily loss limit
- Start of day: Balance $50,000 → daily loss limit level (equity floor) = $49,000, permitted loss = $1,000.
- If you take $800 in closed losses, you can still absorb up to $200 in floating losses before hitting the limit.
- If equity reaches $49,000, you hit a soft breach — trading is disabled for the day and resets to $1,000 permitted loss the next day.
It trails with profit: if Day 1 ends at $51,500 (after $1,500 profit), the daily loss limit level trails up to $51,500 − $1,000 = $50,500. So on the next day, equity reaching $50,500 or lower triggers the soft breach.
Part 2 — The Maximum Loss Limit (MLL)
The Maximum Loss Limit (MLL) is the total amount you can lose in your Challenge Account or FundedNext Account before the account is permanently breached (a hard breach).
The MLL follows a trailing EOD system:
- It moves up as your balance increases, but never moves down with losses.
- It updates once per day at the end of the trading day (05:00 PM CT) — not in real time.
Section: Part 2 — The Maximum Loss Limit (MLL)
− - Once it reaches your initial balance, it locks and no longer increases. (For Flex and Rapid Pro & Daily, it locks at initial balance + $100.)
+ - Once it reaches your initial balance, it locks and no longer increases. (For Flex, Rapid Pro & Daily, and Direct Account it locks at initial balance + $100.)
- If your floating loss reaches the MLL during a live trade, your account is breached instantly.

Section: Where the MLL locks (stops trailing)
+ - Direct: $50,100
Example — how the MLL adjusts over time ($100K Legacy, MLL $3,000)
- Day 1: Balance rises to $101,000 → MLL = $101,000 − $3,000 = $98,000.
- Day 2: Balance rises to $103,000 → MLL = $103,000 − $3,000 = $100,000. This equals the initial balance, so the MLL locks at $100,000.
- Day 3: Balance drops to $101,000 → MLL stays at $100,000 (never moves down).
- Day 4: Balance rises to $106,000 → MLL stays locked at $100,000.
If the balance ever falls below $100,000, the account is permanently breached.

Which models have a daily loss limit?
| Model | Daily Loss Limit |
|---|
| Rapid Daily ($25K / $50K / $100K) | $500 / $1,000 / $1,250 |
| Rapid Pro (only if the Add-On is selected) | $500 / $1,000 / $1,250 |
| Legacy | None |
| Flex | None |

- Once it reaches your initial balance, it locks and no longer increases. (For Flex and Rapid Pro & Daily, it locks at initial balance + $100.)
- If your floating loss reaches the MLL during a live trade, your account is breached instantly.

| $100,000 | $3,000 | $2,500 | $2,500 |

Where the MLL locks (stops trailing)
- Legacy: at the initial balance — $25,000 / $50,000 / $100,000.
- Flex: $50,100 / $100,100 / $150,100.
- Rapid Pro & Daily: $25,100 / $50,100 / $100,100.

Can I set my own daily loss limit?
Yes — if you'd like a daily loss limit even on a model that doesn't include one by default (or want a tighter one than your model's), Tradovate's risk settings let you turn on a manual daily loss limit. This is entirely your choice — it's an optional, self-imposed guardrail to help you manage risk and stay disciplined.
Setting a manual daily loss limit in Tradovate doesn't change your account's official rules — your model's actual daily loss limit (if any) and the Maximum Loss Limit still apply as normal. Think of it as an extra personal safety net you control.

Key takeaways
- The daily loss limit = a soft breach (recoverable next day); the MLL = a hard breach (permanent).
- Both include floating losses — an open trade can trigger either limit intraday.
- Both trail with EOD profit; the MLL locks at your initial balance (initial + $100 for Flex and Rapid Pro & Daily).
